The Pennsylvania House approved a $27.15 billion state budget Wednesday in Harrisburg, that cuts state spending, holds the line on taxes, and gives the state its first on-time spending plan in 8 years. Rep. Mauree Gingrich (R-Lebanon) said that due to harsh economic conditions, the legislature had no choice but to cut spending to many popular programs. Rep. Mauree Gingrich Comments on Signing of Fair Share Act - 6/28/2011
Legislation that will provide lawsuit abuse reform in Pennsylvania has been signed into law. The Fair Share Act eliminates joint liability in cases where defendants are less than 60% responsible for damages, and implements a system where defendants will only pay the percentage of damages for which they are responsible. Rep. Mauree Gingrich (R-Lebanon) said that the hospital and business climate in Pennsylvania will benefit from a more equitable system of liability in civil cases. Rep. Mauree Gingrich Comments on Signing of Legislation Banning Bath Salts - 6/24/2011
Legislation banning the sale of “bath salts” and other synthetic look-alike drugs has been signed by Governor Corbett. Rep. Mauree Gingrich (R-Lebanon) said she is happy that this bill moved quickly through the legislative process, and that these dangerous drugs will no longer be available on store shelves. Rep. Mauree Gingrich Comments on House Passage of Budget Bill - 5/24/2011
The Pennsylvania House passed its version of the budget on Tuesday in Harrisburg. The spending plan included no new or increased taxes and stayed within the governor’s spending limit of $27.3 billion. Rep. Mauree Gingrich (R-Lebanon) said she approves of the cuts realized in this budget, and that education funding has been increased over the governor’s proposal. A package of legislation designed to return integrity to the state’s welfare system has been introduced in Harrisburg. The package of bills have been crafted in response to Auditor General Jack Wagner’s report which outlines the depth of waste, fraud, and abuse that have plagued the welfare system in Pennsylvania. Rep. Mauree Gingrich (R-Lebanon), co-chair of the Welfare Policy Development Team, said that welfare must be protected and preserved so it can provide services to those who truly need them. Budget hearings are continuing in Harrisburg as cabinet members and the heads of other branches of state government appear before legislative committees to face questions about expenditures for the coming year.
