HARRISBURG – Individuals filing their 2011 Pennsylvania personal income taxes can help the state’s military personnel and their families by donating part or all of their refund to the Military Family Relief Assistance Program, Rep. Mauree Gingrich (R-Lebanon) announced today.

WHAT: At a ceremony on Tuesday, Gov. Tom Corbett is expected to sign a bill sponsored by Rep. Mauree Gingrich (R-Lebanon) that establishes an informal dispute resolution process for long-term care facilities. Act 128 enables nursing care facilities to resolve allegations of noncompliance with federal and state regulations, saving them costly and time-consuming litigation, and ensuring quality care.

WHAT: Reps. Mauree Gingrich (R-Lebanon) and Ed Pashinski (D-Luzurne) will co-host the ninth annual Capitol Challenge Blood Drive at the state Capitol on Jan. 24. The event pits Republicans and Democrats in the House and Senate and staff against each other in a friendly challenge to see which side can garner the greatest number of blood donations for the Central Pennsylvania Blood Bank (CPBB). Demand for life-saving blood rises in the winter months, and poor weather tends to keep would-be donors at home, making the Capitol Challenge a timely and worthwhile event. Last year more than 80 pints of blood were collected at the annual event.

HARRISBURG – The House overwhelmingly passed a major piece of legislation, sponsored by Rep. Mauree Gingrich (R-Lebanon), which represents the most significant update of Pennsylvania’s Borough Code in 45 years. House Bill 1702 will modernize and recodify the Borough Code to bring it into line with current laws and make it easier to understand.

HARRISBURG – A bill sponsored by Rep. Mauree Gingrich (R-Lebanon) to establish an informal review process for long-term care nursing facilities is on its way to becoming law. By a unanimous vote today, the House approved Senate amendments to Gingrich’s bill, sending it to the governor’s desk for signature.

HARRISBURG – Rep. Mauree Gingrich (R-Lebanon) said some businesses are charging senior citizens a $39 fee for a service that is available to them free of charge by her office. She said a number of her constituents have called her office saying they have received letters from businesses offering assistance in filling out their Property Tax/Rent Rebate forms.
